“I have absolute trust” – Odartey Lamptey backs Otto Addo for World Cup success

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has thrown his full support behind Otto Addo, expressing strong belief that the Black Stars technical team will deliver at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite criticism following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—ending a streak of over two decades of consistent appearances—Addo guided the Ghana national football team to secure qualification for the Mundial.

The team also ended 2025 on an impressive note, going unbeaten in their World Cup qualifying campaign and finishing top of their group.

Amid growing calls from sections of fans for a change in leadership ahead of the tournament, Lamptey has backed the current technical team to rise to the occasion.

“I have absolute trust in Otto Addo and his technical team to deliver for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup,” he told GHOne TV.

Ghana have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Currently, the team is in Vienna preparing for international friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month as part of their final build-up to the tournament.

With confidence from former players like Lamptey, attention now turns to whether Addo and his squad can translate belief into success on football’s biggest stage.
