Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he is yet to speak with Otto Addo about playing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup although he is looking to get fit for the global showcase.
Gyan has played in three world cups so far in his career, scoring six goals for his country. He is currently Africa’s record goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup.
However, the 36-year-old has not played a game for the Black Stars since the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019. He has also not played a competitive game since his contract with Legon Cities ended in 2020.
He has disclosed to the BBC that he is looking at how his body reacts but we could see him in the Black Stars jersey once again.
“Honestly, I haven’t spoken to anybody at all. It’s part of the plan. I just want to make sure and see how my body reacts first. Me and my manager, we’ve been talking behind the scenes, you know and everything so we just have to make sure, we know what we are doing. Everything is in progress, and everything looks positive. We’ll see what happens. There might be a surprise.”
The former Sunderland striker has scored 51 goals in 109 appearances for Ghana so far.
