Ghanaian youngster Emmanuel Essiam from Berekum Chelsea FC has stated that he joined FC Basel in Swiss Super League because of the club’s history with African Footballers.
The Ghana U20 midfielder signed for the Red and Blues until the summer of 2026 after both parties agreed to the deal after he successfully passed his mandatory medical test.
According to Essiam, he sees the club as the right place to develop his talent to reach his full potential in his professional football career in Europe.
He also used former Ghana Black Stars right-back Samuel Inkoom who shined during his days at the club as one of the reasons he decided to join the Switzerland giant.
Again, Essiam mentioned Liverpool FC and Egypt super star Mohammed Salah and Arsenal midfielder Mohammed Elneny as part of the players developed at the club which convinced him to choose same path.
“The knowledge of the size and history of the club, the enthusiastic fans, the national and international successes as well as the stories of African players like Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny and Samuel Inkoom, who launched their European careers at FCB, made me feel that Basel would be the perfect step for my development and my career”, he said in his first interview.
