Samartex head coach Christopher Ennin has expressed delight following his side’s 2-1 triumph over Asante Kotoko on matchday 28 of the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The victory ended a seven-game winless run in the Ghanaian top flight for the Timber Giants and came after the match had been initially abandoned due to heavy rain with the score tied at 0-0. Upon resumption, Samartex quickly seized control.
Christian Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Essien were on target to give the visitors a crucial advantage, while Albert Amoah’s late strike for Kotoko proved only a consolation.
Ennin highlighted his familiarity with Kotoko’s style of play and his tactical approach in handling the match.
“I always enjoy playing against Kotoko in Kumasi. I remember beating them with ten men during my days at Berekum Chelsea. I know how to frustrate Kotoko and make them play to our rhythm. We forced them to adapt to our strengths, and it led to the goals. I’ve studied the team closely—for me, it’s all about tactical discipline,” he said at the post-match conference.
The win lifts Samartex into sixth place, strengthening their push for a top-four finish as the season enters its final stretch.
Meanwhile, Kotoko remain fourth on 43 points after 28 matches, missing the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars, with Medeama SC and Accra Hearts of Oak occupying second and third respectively.
