Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton has defended his decision to invite captain Andre Ayew for Ghana’s game against Central Africa Republic.
Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew was invited as part of the 25-man-squad for the final Group E AFCON qualifier against Central Africa Republic, a decision that many have criticised.
To the critics of the Andre Ayew’s call up, the captain is currently clubless and doesn’t have the fitness needed for the big game on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
However, Chris Hughton maintains that he knows what Andre Ayew brings on board and that’s why he is in the team.
“What I have to do is to pick a squad that is made up of young exciting players and much more experienced players,” Hughton told Asaase Radio.
“There will always be, in the general public, a lot of debate about who should be in the squad and who shouldn’t.
“We are knowledgeable about the amount games that he has played and we also know what he means to the squad. He is out captain; I know what he gives the squad.”
The Black Stars will host Central Africa Republic on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
