Ghana captain Andre Ayew, has opened up on his disappointing penny miss in the Black Stars final group H match against Uruguay.
The four-time African Champions suffered a 2:0 loss to the South American side as they both exited the global showpiece on Friday, 2nd December, 2022.
Ghana had a fine opportunity in the early minutes of the game to take the lead after Ajax Star Mohammed Kudus was brought down by the Uruguay goalkeeper.
Andre Ayew stepped out to take the penalty only to cheaply slot the ball in the hands of the goalkeeper.
The Black Stars after missing the penalty went off and could not even get a draw which could have secured them a round of 16 berth, losing 2:0 at the end of the game.
Speaking in a post-match presser, Ayew said year old admitted he is still struggling to fathom how he missed from just 12 yards but added the team has a strong squad with a brighter future.
“We had the opportunity to get to the next stage…I missed the penalty..it’s difficult to take..we did not get it right..I am very optimistic for the future.”
“I am sad but we will try and make it better.”
