Bernard Obuo, a former Hearts of Oak youth player, recounted his awe-struck encounter with Ghanaian football legend Sulley Muntari during a visit to the club’s training grounds.
In 2022, Muntari, a former Black Stars midfielder, had a brief stint with Hearts of Oak after returning to Ghana. His presence contributed to the club’s success in clinching the FA Cup and President’s Cup.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the young Ghanaian attacker expressed his delight at sharing the field with esteemed players like Sulley Muntari, Samuel Inkoom, and Gladson Awako at Hearts of Oak. Obuo revealed that he was particularly star-struck upon encountering Sulley Muntari, the former Inter Milan midfielder, for the first time.
“Sharing the pitch with top players like Sulley Muntari, Samuel Inkoom and Gladson Awako at Hearts of Oak was great. Playing with them made me feel I have reached a higher pedestal. Truth be told, they thought us how to succeed in the game and I believe their teachings has really helped us”
“They made us know real football stories on how to attain greater heights in the football world. It isn’t easy to be in the same team with Sulley Muntari. I starred at Sulley Muntari for over three (3) minutes when he arrived at Hearts of Oak’s training grounds for the first time. Of course I was star struck. Sulley nicknamed me “The General”, the first day we trained together”
During his time with Hearts of Oak, Obuo celebrated success, winning the Ghana Premier League during the 2021/22 season, along with two FA Cup titles.
Currently, the dynamic winger-forward finds himself without a club after amicably parting ways with Hearts of Oak at the conclusion of the season. Obuo’s departure is motivated by his pursuit of increased playing time in the upcoming season.
