Ghana head coach Otto Addo has opened up about the emotional impact of the Black Stars’ 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana had hoped to bounce back after a string of disappointing results, including a loss to Angola and a draw with Niger. However, they were held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the return match in Libya.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) media, Addo admitted that the loss took a personal toll on him. He revealed how difficult the last few days had been but credited the unwavering support from his family and friends for helping him regain his focus.
“To be honest I was like, the last two days I was dead but now I got a lot of positive feedback also and a lot of support from family and friends and this is the time where I need them and also I think all the players, all the team needs it and this brought me back on track,” Addo said.
The defeat has left the Black Stars in a difficult position, with only two points from four matches in Group F. To keep their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes alive, Ghana must secure victories in their final games against Angola and Niger in November, while hoping Sudan drops points in their remaining fixtures.
