Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes declined the request to share his thoughts about referee Paul Tierney’s decision to dismiss Man United defender Lisandro Martinez from the team’s English Premier League game against Leeds United.

Martinez was sent off in the 56th minute in Man United’s 2-1 loss to Leeds United at Old Trafford for violent conduct after pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair. The decision stunned Martinez and Man United players and coaches with many observers slamming the decision.

Fernandes provided the assist for Casemiro’s goal for Man United with the loss keeping Man United in third place in the league but tied on 55 points with fourth placed Aston Villa.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the loss, Bruno Fernandes was surprised with the decision and disappointed with the result.

“We weren’t great, we gave too much space away. We ended up going 2-0 down, we had time in the second half to turn it around but it was not possible. We had to prepare ourselves in the best way. We did but it wasn’t enough to win the game.”

On Lisandro Martinez’s red card, Fernandes said, “I’m not talking about the referee. If I talk about the referee I’m going to get in very big trouble because the rules are applied differently for everyone. You can see it also in the yellow cards. It’s better that I don’t say anything.”
