Coach Ibrahim Tanko has revealed that he is closely monitoring the progress of the Ghana national U-17 side, who have recently performed well in an invitational tournament in Serbia and a friendly match in Saudi Arabia.
The Black Starlets who recently won the four nation UEFA U-16 developmental tournament in Serbia played two international friendlies with Saudi Arabia, winning one and played out an entertaining 4-4 draw in the second game.
However, Tanko has stated that he is open to including any talented players from the U-17 setup in his squad for the upcoming U23 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
“We were in camp together, definitely they’re doing a good job. These coaches are my friends so we’ll keep on talking to get the best out of the young guys to help us when need be,” he said in an exclusive interview with FMIG.
Ghana is expected to hold a two-week training camp at an undecided location and play some high-profile matches to prepare for the tournament. The U23 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2023 will be held in Rabat and Tangier from June 24 to July 8, 2023.
In Group A, Ghana will be joined by hosts Morocco, Congo, and Guinea, while Group B will feature holders Egypt, Mali, Gabon, and Niger.
The top three nations from the tournament will qualify for the Summer Olympics in 2024.
Group A matches will be held at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, while Group B matches will take place at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier.
