Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has urged Otto Addo to resign as head coach of the Black Stars following the team’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Polo’s remarks come in the wake of Ghana’s struggles in the qualifiers, where they have yet to secure a victory after previously losing to Angola and drawing with Niger.

Despite managing a goalless draw in the first leg against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Stars could not turn their fortunes around in the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

With mounting pressure for Addo to step down, Polo expressed that he would have already resigned if he were in the coach’s position. “If I were Otto Addo, I would have resigned by now,” said the 1982 AFCON winner during an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

The loss leaves Ghana in third place in Group F, with only two points from four matches, raising concerns about their chances of qualifying for the tournament. The Black Stars will regroup in November to face Niger and Angola in their final group matches.
