Interim Management Committee (IMC) Lead Administrator of Accra Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has dismissed speculation linking him with a bid for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency, insisting his immediate focus is on helping the Phobians overcome their current challenges.
Odotei, who previously contested the GFA presidential election against former president Kwesi Nyantakyi, said he has no plans to return to the race ahead of the association’s next elective congress in October 2027.
With current GFA president Kurt Okraku’s tenure expected to end next year, discussions have already begun over potential successors. Former Black Stars captains Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan have both been mentioned as possible contenders, although neither has officially declared an intention to run.
Speaking on JoySports Link, Odotei explained that restoring Hearts of Oak to their desired level remains his main concern while also expressing worry about the overall state of Ghana football.
“As we sit here today, not really. I believe that now, coming into charge of Accra Hearts of Oak, I’m really, really worried and concerned about the state of the game,” he said.
The experienced football administrator added that he intends to share his views on issues affecting Ghana football through constructive engagement rather than seeking office.
“Knowing who I am, with some of the issues, maybe I’ll communicate them in a different manner compared to when my brother was in charge. But there’s certainly a way that I’ll make my views known so that our friends who are in charge take note, so that we can improve the game.”
Odotei was emphatic when asked whether he would contest for the GFA’s top job.
“In terms of contesting for the FA President, definitely no. But as Margaret Thatcher said, a day in politics is another time.”
The 2027 GFA Elective Congress is expected to shape the future leadership of Ghana football, with more names likely to emerge in the coming months as the election draws closer.
