Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has pointed the finger at Black Stars midfielders for Inaki Williams’ scoring difficulties with the national team.
The Athletic Bilbao attacker has struggled to find his scoring form since switching nationality from Spain to play for the Black Stars in June 2022. After 11 games, the former Spain international has yet to find the back of the net for the four-time African champions.
Despite his struggles with the national team, Williams remains a key player for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, where his performances have garnered significant recognition, including individual honors and nominations.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Dan Quaye, a former Black Stars player, attributed Inaki Williams’ scoring issues to the current midfielders.
Quaye expressed, “It’s about time we reinstate some of the experienced players in the Black Stars. Inaki Williams has struggled to score for the national team since switching allegiance because of our midfielders.”
“I believe Mubarak Wakaso, who is capable of delivering long balls to the attackers, can help him resolve his goal-scoring woes with the Black Stars. Wakaso always ensures he feeds strikers with the balls, and he has the experience for long balls, much like Sulley Muntari. We are the Brazil of Africa, and we must respect that,” Quaye said.
Despite his difficulties with the Black Stars, Inaki Williams is off to a good start in the 2023/24 Spanish La Liga season, having scored four goals and recorded two assists in nine games.
