Spanish giants Athletic Bilbao are set to celebrate one of their modern-day legends, Inaki Williams, after he reached the remarkable milestone of 500 appearances for the club.

The Spain-born Ghana international etched his name deeper into the club’s history books when he featured in Bilbao’s 3-0 defeat to Girona FC last weekend. Although the result was disappointing, it did little to overshadow what remains a monumental personal achievement for the forward.

To honour his incredible contribution, Athletic Bilbao have announced plans to present Williams with a special commemorative plaque during their next home fixture against Real Betis at the iconic San Mamés Stadium. The ceremony is expected to be an emotional moment, with thousands of fans set to pay tribute to a player who has given so much to the club over the years.

Adding further significance to the occasion, club captain Óscar de Marcos—himself a Bilbao legend—will present the award to Williams, symbolizing a passing of legacy between two of the club’s most dedicated servants.

Williams becomes just the eighth player in Athletic Bilbao’s illustrious history to reach the 500-game mark, joining an elite group of legends including José Ángel Iribar, De Marcos, Iker Muniain, Rojo I, Joseba Etxeberria, Andoni Iraola, and Markel Susaeta.

Across his 500 appearances in the famous red and white jersey, Williams has scored 114 goals, consistently delivering for the club with his pace, durability, and attacking threat. His loyalty and consistency have made him a fan favourite and a symbol of Athletic Bilbao’s identity.

A breakdown of his appearances highlights his importance across competitions: 396 matches in La Liga, 42 in the Europa League, 52 in the Copa del Rey, six in the Super Cup, and three in the UEFA Champions League. Over the years, he has also helped the club secure silverware, including the Copa del Rey title.

Beyond the numbers, Williams’ legacy at Athletic Bilbao goes far deeper. Known for his incredible work ethic and record-breaking consistency, he has been one of the most reliable players in European football, rarely missing matches and always delivering when called upon.

As the club prepares to celebrate this historic milestone, fans will not only be honouring a player but a symbol of loyalty, resilience, and excellence. Inaki Williams’ journey to 500 appearances stands as a testament to dedication and passion—qualities that have cemented his place among Athletic Bilbao’s all-time greats.
