Ghanaian forward Iñaki Williams was the hero on Wednesday evening as he scored the only goal to give Athletic Bilbao a 1-0 win over Las Palmas in the Spanish La Liga.
Playing at the San Mamés Stadium, it took Williams just six minutes to find the back of the net. His early goal proved to be enough, as Bilbao held on to claim all three points and move closer to qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Las Palmas came close to equalizing, hitting the crossbar and forcing several saves from the Bilbao goalkeeper. Despite the pressure, the home side stood firm.
Later in the game, Iñaki had a chance to pass to his brother, Nico Williams, in a promising position but chose to take the shot instead. That moment could have sealed the match, but the final whistle came with the score still at 1-0.
The 30-year-old forward now has six goals and eight assists in 32 La Liga matches this season, continuing to play an important role for his team.
