Richmond Lamptey, the midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has shed light on the various factors contributing to the team’s lackluster performance in the previous season, which culminated in the absence of any trophies for the Porcupine Warriors.
Despite their efforts, the team was unable to defend their title, resulting in a season without securing any silverware.
Lamptey has identified several key issues that influenced the team’s struggles, including injuries to crucial players and a degree of indiscipline within the squad.
“Indiscipline, low motivation were some of the factors that affected our campaign last season,” he told Asante Kotoko media.
He further explained, “We also had a lot of injuries and midfielders had to improvise by playing on the wings. In all, we had an imbalanced team and it cost us, compared to last season,” added the former WAFA playmaker.
Lamptey acknowledged the crucial role of fan support, mentioning, “The support was last season, me as a player, when you don’t get the support of fans, it really affects performance. However, we’ve seen some improvements ahead of the new season.”
In a notable development, Asante Kotoko has reinstated Dr. Prosper Ogum as the club’s coach in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
As part of their preseason preparations in Beposo, the team is engaging in a series of friendly matches to gauge their strengths and fine-tune their strategies before the new season commences.
