Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has voiced strong pride in his Athletic Club teammates, following their 4-1 loss to Manchester United in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal on Thursday night.
Despite the heavy defeat at Old Trafford, the Basque side momentarily stunned the hosts when Mikel Jauregizar unleashed a stunning long-range strike just before halftime, giving Athletic Club an early lead.
Manchester United, however, mounted a strong second-half comeback. Mason Mount brought the Red Devils level in the 72nd minute with a fine finish, before Casemiro put them ahead eight minutes later. Rasmus Hojlund added another in the 85th minute, and Mount completed his brace in stoppage time, sealing a convincing victory for the English side.
United advanced to the final with a dominant 7-1 aggregate score and will now prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur.
Although Inaki Williams missed the match due to injury, he took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to applaud his teammates’ efforts and resilience.
“More than proud of my teammates and all of Athleticalez. Thank you. We’ll come back stronger,” he wrote.
