“Injuries took a toll on my performance at Asante Kotoko” – Georges Mfegue

Cameroonian forward Georges Mfegue Omgba has revealed that injuries played a significant role in his disappointing performance during his third season at Asante Kotoko, which ultimately led to his departure from the club.

Mfegue, one of the 18 players released by the Porcupines as his contract expired, attributed his struggles in the just-concluded season to recurring injuries.

Joining the Porcupine Warriors in 2021 from Avion Academy, the 27-year-old initially made a significant impact, forming a potent attacking duo with fellow Cameroonian Franck Etouga Mbella as they contributed to Kotoko’s triumph in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

However, Mfegue’s form waned in the following season, with the forward managing just 12 league appearances and one assist. Despite his decline in performance, he departed on amicable terms with the club after his contract was not renewed.

Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, Mfegue explained that his injuries took a toll on his performance and contributed to his limited playing time last season. “They (Kotoko) didn’t sack me because my contract with them ended this month and they didn’t renew for me. We had a discussion and we agreed to part ways mutually”, he said.

“I had a lot of injuries that’s why I didn’t play much last season. It affected my performance too that’s why I was mostly not playing,” he clarified.

Mfegue leaves behind a notable legacy at Kotoko, having featured in 64 league matches and scoring 11 goals during his three-year tenure at the club.
