Former Hearts of Oak forward, Ishmael Addo, says it is a big mistake to mention Franck Mbella Etouga’s name alongside his following the Asante Kotoko forward’s good season in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.
Last season, Etouga was in the headlines for the kind of performances he churned out for the Porcupine Warriors, leading them to their first league title since the 2013/14 campaign.
At some point, his rate of scoring goals raised suggestions he was going to score more goals than Addo’s 22 goals in the 2001 season, prompting conversation around the two but the former Hearts man says it’s inappropriate to compare Etouga to him.
“If you are comparing that guy to me, then it is a big mistake,” Addo told Joy Sports.
“You can’t say somebody is winning one goal king of the season to break my record. The record that I set was three times. It’s not even a record. I equalled somebody’s record.
“When you guys are putting an argument across, you need to know how to put it. Myself that you are comparing the guy to, I never broke the record, I only equalled the record.”
At the end of the 2021/22 season, Yaw Annor’s two goals on the final day saw him clinch the top scorer award ahead of the Cameroonian.
