“It looks like that” – Prince Owusu admits Kotoko title dreams fading after shock home defeat to Samartex

Asante Kotoko SC interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has conceded that the club’s Ghana Premier League title ambitions are slipping away following a damaging 2-1 home defeat to FC Samartex 1996.

Speaking after the game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Owusu delivered a candid assessment of his side’s situation, admitting their current position makes a late title push increasingly unlikely.

“It looks like that,” he said when asked if the title race was over. “I don’t know, this is football, but right now, when I look at the points and where we are, it doesn’t look good.”

Kotoko’s setback, courtesy of goals from Christian Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Essien, leaves the Porcupine Warriors eight points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars FC, with only six matches left to play.

The defeat highlights a worrying dip in form for the record Ghanaian champions, who have struggled with consistency and tactical discipline in recent weeks—issues Owusu openly acknowledged.

Once optimistic about their chances in early March, the Kotoko boss has now struck a more cautious tone as his side sits fourth on 43 points.

Attention now turns to a daunting away fixture against second-placed Medeama SC on April 12, a clash that could further define the fate of Kotoko’s season and intensify scrutiny on Owusu’s interim reign.
