Ghana international Majeed Ashimeru says it was good seeing ‘great guy’ Francis Amuzu assist him for his first-ever goal in European competitions.
Ashimeru scored the second goal in Anderlecht’s 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa Conference League on Thursday, April 13.
The budding midfielder received a cross from his countryman, Amuzu before slotting the ball past the opponent’s goalkeeper to double his team’s lead as they took a first-leg advantage.
Reacting to receiving help from Amuzu, Ashimeru said on 3FM, “Amuzu is one of my best friends not only in Anderlecht but outside the pitch. So assisting me felt really good because he had been tasking me to assist him and he ended up assisting me.”
“We just hope we continue like that because he is a great guy on and off the pitch and he is one of the guys I really do care about.”
Ashimeru and Amuzu have been friends over the last few years even when the former had not joined Anderlecht.
