Sutton United Football Club have officially announced the permanent signing of Kwaku Donkor from fellow National League side Tamworth.

Capable of playing at right-back or right wing-back, the 21-year old will bring pace, power, directness and athleticism on the flank, with Chris Agutter looking to bolster his defensive line heading into the second half of the season.

A product of the Blackpool academy, he first linked with the Tangerines from the Onside Football Academy and signed a two-year scholarship at Blackpool in the summer of 2021, having made the move from London the year before.

Welcome to Sutton, Kwaku! 💛

He made his first-team debut in September 2023 in an EFL Trophy group game against Barrow before embarking on his first senior loan, joining Havant and Waterlooville on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season after making three substitute appearances for Pool in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy earlier on in the season.

Donkor was later loaned out to National League South side Welling United ahead of the 2024/25 season, and then to Mickleover after spending the first half of the campaign with the Wings, prior to making a permanent switch to Tamworth after spending five years at Bloomfield Road.

He has since gone on to appear 21 times for the Lambs this term, playing a key part in Andy Peaks’ side maintaining their remarkable rise up non-league to sit 13th in the division.

After making the switch to Gander Green Lane, Donkor said:

“It’s a pleasure to be here.

For me as soon as the gaffer got in touch with me and explained to me the ambition of the club and the goals they have it was something I really wanted to be a part of.

When it came down to it, it was a simple choice for me.”
