“It’s an honour for Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to express interest in me” – King Faisal defender Oppong Afrane

David Oppong Afrane, the standout defender for King Faisal, has become a sought-after player in the Ghana Premier League after an impressive season, despite his team’s disappointing campaign resulting in demotion to the Division One League.

His stellar performances for the Isha Allah club have caught the attention of top clubs in the league, including Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, both of whom had challenging seasons and are looking to strengthen their squads.

In response to the speculations surrounding his potential move, Afrane has openly shared his thoughts on the matter. He confirmed that he has been in contact with some clubs, with most of the discussions occurring during national duties, and he has directed them to his agent for further negotiations.

“Yes, I have been speaking to some of the clubs but most of the calls came during national duties so I directed them to my agent”

Being recognized by such prominent clubs is an honor for the talented defender, and he sees it as validation for his excellent performances on the field. He expressed his willingness to consider joining either of the two illustrious clubs if the discussions progress positively.

“It’s an honour for the two big clubs in Ghana (ie Kotoko and Hearts) to express interest in me, it means I’m doing something good. So should conversations go on well, I will join one of them since I can’t turn down such an opportunity”

Afrane acknowledged the pressure that comes with playing for renowned clubs like Kotoko and Hearts, but he confidently stated that he can handle it, drawing from his experience at King Faisal, where he has already faced similar challenges.

“I’m aware of the pressure in these clubs, but the same situation is at King Faisal, and for me to handle the pressure here, I can do the same at either Kotoko or Hearts,” he confidently stated.

The decision ahead is crucial for Afrane’s career, and he will carefully weigh his options before making a choice that will shape his football journey with either Asante Kotoko or Hearts of Oak, two of the most prestigious and historic clubs in Ghana.
