Former Ghana striker Joetex Asamoah Frimpong has questioned the inclusion of some foreign-based players in the Black Stars team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations – (AFCON).
According to him, the Ghana FA relying solely on foreign-based players for the tournament played a key role in the country’s poor display at the tournament.
The Black Stars were crushed out of the tournament on Tuesday following a 3-2 defeat to debutant Comoros. For the first time in the history of Ghana, the team failed to win a single game in an AFCON tournament, Ghana’s worst ever AFCON campaign.
Speaking on Elmina-based Ahomka FM, Asamoah, sighted Thomas Partey as one of those players who don’t play with their heart out while donning the national colours.
Joetex further insisted that: “It would be better to call on local players who would be willing to die for the nation than these foreign-based players.”
Meanwhile, the team is expected to arrive in Ghana on Thursday 20th January, 2022.
The Black Stars’ next international assignment will be in March when they play in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs.
