Ghana Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu has welcomed the opportunity to test his team against high-calibre opponents ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed two key international friendlies in Europe this March as part of the Black Stars’ preparations. On 27th March 2026, Ghana will face Austria in Vienna, followed by a clash with Germany in Stuttgart three days later. Additionally, the team is scheduled to play Mexico during the May international break in North America, with the venue yet to be confirmed.
“These are really good challenges,” Owusu said. “Facing top teams shows us where we are and gives us a chance to compete at a high level. I really like that challenge.”
The 28-year-old midfielder stressed the importance of maintaining focus at both club and international level. “For now, my focus is on staying consistent in the league, giving my best for my club and my country, and hopefully earning a place in the squad that goes to America. But I know that depends on my performances,” he added.
Ghana, drawn in Group L at the 2026 World Cup alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, will kick off their tournament campaign against Panama on 18th June 2026 at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
The friendlies against Austria and Germany are expected to be crucial tests in building cohesion, confidence, and match sharpness before the global stage.
