Promising Ghanaian forward James Ampofo says he feels ready for a senior national team call-up after completing a move to Norwegian top-tier club Strømsgodset IF.

The 21-year-old striker signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Eliteserien outfit on Wednesday, following a successful medical. He makes the switch from Raufoss IL, a club in Norway’s second division, where he impressed with six goals and one assist in just 12 matches this season.

Speaking to close sources, Ampofo described the transfer as a major milestone in his journey.
“This is a big step in my career. Playing in a top-flight league has always been my goal, and now that I’m here, I’m ready to give it my all,” he said.

The former Ghana U20 forward, who helped the Black Satellites win the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, has set his sights on earning a place in the senior national team.
“I’ve worked hard for this opportunity. Representing Ghana at the senior level has always been a dream, and I believe I’m prepared for the responsibility that comes with it,” he added.

At Strømsgodset, the coaching staff view Ampofo as an important boost to their attack. His speed, aggressive runs, and ability to stretch opposing defences are seen as key qualities that will add depth to their frontline.

Ampofo’s rise through the ranks has been steady, and with consistent performances in the Norwegian top flight, a Black Stars call-up may be closer than ever.
