Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse has officially unveiled Ghanaian international Abdul Aziz Yakubu as their new signing, bringing an end to the delay surrounding his transfer.
The 25-year-old forward joins the J. League 2 side on a permanent deal after ending his stay with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave. Yakubu’s unveiling ceremony was held today, with the Ghanaian attacker expected to play a key role for the team.
This marks Yakubu’s return to Asia, having spent most of 2023 in China with Wuhan Three Lions. His journey at Rio Ave began in the 2021/22 season, where he quickly adapted to life at the club and became a fan favorite due to his outstanding performances.
During his three-year stint with Rio Ave, Yakubu made 73 appearances, scoring 30 goals across all competitions. The Ghanaian forward is now set to bring his skills to Shimizu S-Pulse, who are currently third in the J. League 2 standings with 43 points after 23 matches.
The log leaders are just a point ahead of Shimizu S-Pulse, and Yakubu’s arrival could be a significant boost for the team as they look to challenge for promotion to the top tier of Japanese football.
