Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has expressed strong belief in Ghana’s ability to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their dominant win over Madagascar.
Ghana currently sits atop Group I with 15 points, holding a three-point advantage over second-placed Comoros with four matches left to play. Opoku is certain the team can maintain its lead and book a spot at the global tournament.
“I am 200% confident of qualifying. That’s the aim and dream,” Opoku told Flashscore. “We know it’s not job done yet, and it won’t be easy, but we will fight hard till the end to ensure that we secure the necessary and needed points to be first in the group and qualify for the World Cup.”
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON 2025 has only strengthened their resolve to succeed in the World Cup qualifiers. Opoku believes the disappointment has become a driving force for the squad.
“This time, we had a different and much bigger motivation because the team failed to qualify for the AFCON,” he explained. “We needed to put that behind us, move on, and make it up to the whole country by winning games and qualifying for the World Cup.”
