Saudi Arabia have qualified to the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals under the tutelage of French tactician Herve Renard.
This follows the win of Japan against Australia on Thursday as both Japan and the Kingdom book their tickets to the finals of the Coupe du Monde to be played in Qatar later this year.
Renard – winner of the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia and Ivory Coast – has always been linked with the coaching role of the Black Stars over the years but it has never been a reality.
The French trainer was once again linked to the vacant Black Stars coaching job when Milovan Rajevac was sacked after Ghana’s abject performance at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Saudi will thus be making their sixth appearance at the World Cup finals during the Qatar tournament.
