Highly-rated teenager Jonah Kusi-Asare has impressed since joining Bayern from AIK in the Swedish elite league.

Stats correct as of 8 December 2024

Jonah Kusi-Asare

Age: 17 (born 4 July 2017)
Club: Bayern Munich
Position: Centre-forward
Country: Sweden (eight youth caps, five goals)/ Ghana (uncapped)

Key stats

Kusi-Asare has been an unused Bayern substitute three times during the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, having signed a long-term deal with the club in February 2024. The plan was that he would initially play for the U19s, but three goals and an assist in six appearances quickly propelled him into the Bayern reserve team picture before those first-team tasters in the top flight.

Pre-Bayern, Kusi-Asare made history AIK’s youngest-ever player, having debuted for the club in Sweden’s top tier one month and 24 days after turning 16. The 6’4″ striker made four appearances in the Allsvenskan in 2023, the year he was promoted from the Sweden U16s to 17s. He made his debut in a UEFA Euro U17 qualifier against Moldova, marking the occasion with a hat-trick.

Plays a bit like: Alexander Isak

Kusi-Asare has a similar profile to Alexander Isak, the former Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad forward now banging in the goals for Newcastle United and Sweden. Strong, fast, tall, technical and a confident finisher, the Bayern teen also likes to drop deep to win back possession and kick-start counter-attacks.

Did you know?

Jonah is the son of Jones Kusi-Asare, who played professionally in Sweden, Austria and Denmark. A scorer of 26 goals across 132 competitive games, the Ghana-born striker – capped once by the Sweden U21s – got his hands on the 2001/02 Austrian Cup during a stint at Graz, before winning the domestic double with Sweden’s Djurgårdens in 2005.

What they’re saying

“Jonah Kusi-Asare is a young striker with enormous potential. He has all the attributes: he’s technically strong, fast, tall, very robust for his age and an excellent finisher. We’re very pleased that he’ll be playing for FC Bayern in the future.” – Christoph Freund, Bayern sporting director

“He’s extraordinary. He’s good at everything: strong, technical, can score from nothing, good in the air. It feels like he does what he wants. He has a great future, and is only going to get better.” – George Mousally, Kusi-Asare’s former U17s coach at AIK Solna.
