Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has heaped praises on Medeama SC striker Jonathan Sowah on his Ghana debut.

The manager was full of admiration for the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League winner for his impact in Ghana’s 3-1 win over The Lone Stars of Liberia in Accra.

According to him, the young striker lifted the team when he came on as a substitute to play his first ever game in Ghana colours.

Chris Hughton: I’m really impressed by the performance of Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah. Especially Sowah, he lifted the team when he came on.

Ghana’s Black Stars whipped The Lone Stars of Liberia in a friendly match on Tuesday, September 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners beat their West Africa brothers 3-1 to make it two consecutive for the first time under Chris Hughton.

The Irish coach made some changes to his team going into the game which gave the likes of Baba Iddrisu, Antoine Semenyo, Ernest Nuamah, Kingsley Schindler and Edmund Addo the opportunity to start.

Abdul Manaf Nurudeen was preferred in goal for the game as Ghana won with ease before the players leave to join their various clubs.

Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku was the captain for the day against the Lone Stars of Liberia and did not return to the field as he went away to catch a flight to return to his club.

The opening 45 minutes of the match produced no goal as it ended a goalless stalemate with 45 minutes left to play.

In the second half of the match, Nicholas Opoku’s long and precise pass found Ernest Nuamah who perfectly controlled the ball to slot home the opening goal of the match in the second half of the match.

Nuamah turned provider minutes later when he set up Mohammed Kudus to score to make it 2-0 to Ghana with a beautiful strike inside the goal area.

Jordan Ayew got the third goal for Ghana with his rebound after his initial effort was blocked from close range to make it 3-0 to the Ghanaians.

Liberia scored late make it 3-1 at full time.
