Jordan Ayew, captain of the Ghana national football team, has declared that the team is heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with strong ambition, insisting that the squad aims to make a significant impact rather than merely participate.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have been placed in Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team for the tournament scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ayew stressed that the Black Stars are approaching the competition with high expectations and a strong desire to perform well on the global stage. He explained that the team is determined to give its very best and deliver performances that will excite supporters while achieving the results the squad is targeting. The captain also emphasized that Ghana will not travel to the tournament simply to make up the numbers.
The forward further called for unity and belief as the nation prepares for its fifth appearance at the global tournament. According to him, the players intend to remain humble and focused while dreaming of achieving great success. He added that the team needs strong and positive support from Ghanaians and assured that the players will do everything possible to make the nation proud.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Black Stars will engage in high-profile international friendlies against the Germany national football team and the Austria national football team this month, before facing the Wales national football team in June, just nine days before the World Cup begins.
Head coach Otto Addo and his squad will be eager to improve on their performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana’s campaign ended in the group stage.
