Jordan Ayew grabbed the headlines on Saturday as his early strike helped Leicester City earn a hard-fought 2–2 draw against Oxford United in the English Championship. The Foxes showed remarkable resilience after playing most of the game with ten men.
Oxford United made a flying start, taking the lead in the 9th minute when Will Lankshear pounced on a rebound to fire home. But their joy was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Ghana’s Jordan Ayew punished a loose pass from Cameron Brannagan, coolly curling his shot past the goalkeeper to level the scores.
The home side regained the advantage before half-time when a corner kick caused confusion in the Leicester box. The ball deflected off Boubakary Soumaré and into his own net, putting Oxford 2–1 ahead at the break.
Leicester’s task grew even tougher after Aaron Ramsey received a straight red card midway through the first half, leaving the visitors to fight with ten men.
Despite the setback, the Foxes refused to crumble. They came out after the break with renewed determination and were rewarded in the 55th minute when substitute Ricardo Pereira struck to make it 2–2.
The result underlines Leicester’s character and fighting spirit, while Ayew’s clinical finish once again highlighted his growing influence in the side. Though defensive lapses cost them a possible win, the Foxes will take pride in their ability to battle back under pressure.
