Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on his teammates to rise to the occasion and demonstrate their quality when they face their opponents at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, one of ten African nations set to feature at the tournament in North America, has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
Following a 1-1 draw against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium in their preparations, Ayew stressed the need for confidence and readiness ahead of the global showpiece.
“We have to prove ourselves, and we have to show that we have quality, and we have to be ready for the challenge,” he told FIFA.
He added that the Black Stars are aware of the difficulty ahead but remain motivated despite outside expectations.
“We all know it’s going to be difficult, but we are ready. Obviously, I know people don’t think that we will do well, so that is good,” the former Leicester City forward added.
The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States as they step up preparations for the tournament. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, and concluding their group stage matches against Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will complete their preparations with a final warm-up fixture against Jamaica on June 10.
