Chelsea Football Club manager Enzo Maresca has spoken highly of young Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong, praising his potential to become a top player in the future.
In a recent interview ahead of the Blues’ Premier League game against West Ham United this weekend, Maresca highlighted Acheampong’s abilities and expressed his belief that the 21-year-old has the makings of a standout defender.
“I really like Josh Acheampong,” Maresca stated. “For me, potentially, he can be a top player and defender for the future.” This endorsement reflects the club’s commitment to developing young talent and building a strong foundation for success.
Maresca also shared his philosophy on coaching young players, emphasizing the importance of adaptability in today’s fast-paced football environment.
“Now with the young players, I like to modify them a little. Today, young players can change very quickly!” he remarked, suggesting that he is focused on nurturing Acheampong’s skills while helping him adapt to the demands of higher-level competition.
The 18-year-old right-back (can play as a CB too), has come through the Blues youth system and is currently playing for the Under-21s team.
But he’s been around the first-team scene in the last couple of months, including during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
The defender made his first-team debut last season in a league match against Tottenham, which is his only competitive senior appearance to date.
