English-Ghanaian defender,Joshua Kofi Acheampong, the rising star in the realm of defense, commenced his Chelsea FC journey at the under-8 level.

Acheampong first joined the Blues in their development centre programme as an Under-8 and has progressed through the youth ranks at Cobham and has the capabilities to play in multiple positions across the back line. A versatile defender, he has been a regular for our Under-18s this season and has featured for the Under-21s as well as the development team.

Professional Career

On 2 May 2024, three days shy of his 18th birthday, Acheampong made his debut appearance in the Premier League, as well as his Chelsea men’s senior team debut, coming on as a substitute in the 85th minute for Alfe Gilchrist of a 2–0 Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge over their London derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Position

Acheampong has predominantly featured as right-back this season, though he’s also enjoyed spells at centre-half and wing-back

Contract

Acheampong, who joined Chelsea as an under-eight, signed his first professional contract at the start of the year, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until June 2026. After putting pen to paper, the Blues’ head of youth development and recruitment heaped praise on the youngster.

“We are thrilled that Josh has committed his future to the club,” said Jim Fraser. “He has taken another step forward in his development this season, something reflected in his performances for club and country.”

Wages

Josh Acheampong is currently earning £2,100 per week and £109,20 a year at Chelsea.

International Stardom

Venturing onto the international stage, He has represented England as a youth international at multiple levels. Acheampong featured heavily for the England Under-17s side and was part of the squad which competed at the Under-17 European Championships in the summer of 2023.

Acheampong has featured eight times for Chelsea in the Under-18s Premier League this season, scoring once and providing three assists. His impressive performances at Cobham have earned his a place in the first-team matchday squad on numerous occasions.

In March, he appeared on the bench against Newcastle and Burnley in the Premier League before earning a call-up to the squad against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarterfinal. Acheampong was also named in the travelling Blues setup which faced Aston Villa at the weekend.
