Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has spoken strongly against what he says is unfair pressure from some journalists following his team’s 1-0 victory over Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking after the match, Zito said the media applies double standards when it comes to discussing injuries. He compared his situation to top coaches in Europe.
“When Pep Guardiola says Rodri is injured, nobody complains. But when I say Kotoko has 13 injured players, it becomes a problem,” Zito said.
The Kotoko coach also defended his performance this season, reminding critics that the Ghana Premier League is a long journey, not a short race.
“The league is a marathon. If you attack me because we were fifth, then you are not being fair, especially when you know the challenges I am dealing with,” he added.
Kotoko went into the match after four games without a win, which increased pressure from fans. Some supporters even called for Zito to be sacked. However, the win against Dreams FC has reduced the tension around the club for now.
Zito made it clear that he is not afraid of criticism, insisting that his future does not depend on the job.
“If I leave Kotoko today, nothing will happen to me,” he said.
The win moves Asante Kotoko to third place on the league table with 24 points. They will face Eleven Wonders in Matchday 15 this weekend.
