Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana found the back of the net for the first time this season, but his goal was not enough to save Southampton from a 3-1 home defeat against an in-form AFC Bournemouth.
Sulemana gave the Saints hope in the 72nd minute, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike after receiving a pass from Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu. However, the visitors quickly regained control, restoring their two-goal cushion when Marcus Tavernier slotted home from an Antoine Semenyo assist late in the game.
Bournemouth took charge early in the match, with Burkina Faso striker Dango Ouattara breaking the deadlock just 14 minutes in. Ryan Christie doubled the lead two minutes later, putting Southampton under pressure for the rest of the contest.
Despite the defeat, Sulemana appears to be regaining his form under manager Ivan Juric. His latest goal adds to his three-goal contribution across all competitions, including a goal and an assist in the FA Cup.
The Ghanaian winger, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on February 15, has now featured 13 times in the Premier League this season and will be hoping to build on this performance in the coming games.
