Ghana legend Michael Essien has sent a warm farewell message to Caleb Yirenkyi following the young midfielder’s record-breaking transfer from FC Nordsjaelland to Coventry City.
The 20-year-old Black Stars international completed a move to the newly-promoted Premier League side in a deal worth up to €30 million, setting a new transfer record for Scandinavian football.
Taking to his official X page to salute the youngster’s growth and work ethic, former Chelsea star and current FC Nordsjaelland individual coach Michael Essien urged Yirenkyi to remain grounded as he takes the next big step in his career.

The big-money move also sees Yirenkyi reunite with Black Stars teammate Brandon Thomas-Asante at Coventry City. The duo recently combined on the world stage, with Thomas-Asante providing the crucial assist for Yirenkyi’s winning goal against Panama, Ghana’s only victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
