Ghanaian-Italian forward Kelvin Yeboah continued his strong start to the new season by scoring as Minnesota United defeated FC Cincinnati in the Major League Soccer.
The match, played at the Allianz Field, was a closely contested game.
Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in the first half as the defences stayed solid and chances were limited. Fans had to wait until the second half before the game produced its first and decisive moment.
Yeboah showed his attacking instincts after the hour mark when he scored with a well-timed header. The goal came from a rebound after a free kick struck the goalpost. The Ghanaian forward reacted quickly inside the box to head the ball home and give Minnesota United the lead. His awareness and positioning once again proved vital for his team.
The 24-year-old striker has started the season in impressive form. This goal means he has scored in back-to-back matches, bringing his tally to two goals in two league games. In the opening match of the season, he scored a late equaliser to help Minnesota United secure a point, showing his ability to deliver in important moments.
Interestingly, Yeboah is the nephew of Ghanaian football legend Tony Yeboah, and he remains eligible to represent Ghana at senior international level despite previously playing for Italy’s youth teams.
With his current form, many Ghanaian football followers will be hoping he could one day feature for the national team if he continues to perform at club level.
