Godwin Ablordey, King Faisal’s assistant coach, has emphasized that their main objective is to avoid relegation rather than win the FA Cup trophy, even though they advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament by defeating Aduana Stars on Sunday via penalties.
Aduana FC took the lead with Stephen Anokye Badu’s goal just five minutes before halftime, but Abdul Latif’s penalty equalized the score at 1-1 in the 47th minute.
Frank Owusu put The Fire Boys ahead in the 75th minute, but King Faisal equalized through Benjamin Bature in the 78th minute. After 90 minutes, the score remained 2-2, and King Faisal won 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
Currently, King Faisal is in 11th place with 32 points, just four points ahead of the relegation zone in the Premier League. Ablordey believes that they should prioritize the league and focus on avoiding relegation.
Ablordey said to StarTimes, “Our focus is not on the FA Cup, but on the league. We have to stay in the league. Even if you are eliminated from the FA Cup, you can still play. Therefore, we are concentrating on the league to ensure that we remain in it. We are going to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but it is of secondary importance.”
King Faisal will play against Dreams FC at home on April 16, 2023, in their next league game.
