Kofi Adams advocates single management committee for Ghana’s national teams

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has proposed the establishment of a permanent Management Committee to oversee all of Ghana’s national football teams, saying the move would improve coordination, continuity, and long-term development across every level of the game.

Currently, the various national teams, including the Black Stars, Black Queens, and the youth teams, operate under separate Management Committees. However, the Minister believes a unified structure would provide a more efficient and consistent system.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Mr. Adams stressed the need for a broader discussion on the management of the national teams, including the issue of winning bonuses.

“As a country, I believe we need to have a conversation about these winning bonuses. It is my personal worry, and again, not only the player bonuses but also the Management Teams of the national teams,” he said.

He explained that a standing committee could supervise all the national teams while appointing additional personnel whenever several competitions are taking place at the same time.

“My view and what I have been canvassing is that we should have one Management Team for all our national teams, and then when events are happening, the standing Management Team can appoint other people to assist when there are many events happening around the same time, and that will be so because the members of the Management Team are not enough to cover all the activities that are happening, we can recruit others to represent the Management Team to represent the other assignment.”

The Buem Member of Parliament noted that having one permanent committee would help members gain a better understanding of the challenges confronting Ghana’s national teams, from the grassroots level to the senior sides.

“If maybe we have a seven-member or 11-member Management Team of males and females for all our national teams, I believe there will be proper coordination.”

According to him, the arrangement would also strengthen the transition of players through the various age categories, ensuring a more seamless development pathway.

“We understand that the U-15 is a development level, and we will understand how we transition from that to U-17; one Management Team will be able to understand the challenges that confront the various national teams at various levels.”

Mr. Adams added that the proposed committee would have the flexibility to bring in additional members whenever multiple tournaments are being held simultaneously.

“So I am looking to be pushing this: let’s all have one Management Team for all the national teams, and if there are many competitions happening at the same time, and the members of the Management Team are not enough, we can always recruit others to come join,” the Buem MP added.
