Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has set a bold target for the Black Stars, saying Ghana must aim to reach the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Minister stated that Ghana is not going to the competition just to participate but to compete for the ultimate prize. He explained that once the team has qualified, preparations must be made with the mindset of staying in the tournament until the last match.
Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, has been drawn in a tough group alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia in the remaining group matches.
Kofi Adams noted that the country has learned lessons from early exits in previous tournaments and believes the team must approach the competition with confidence and proper planning. According to him, setting a high target will help the players stay focused and motivated throughout the tournament.
As part of preparations, the Black Stars will regroup in March for friendly matches against Austria national football team and Germany national football team, before playing a final warm-up game against Mexico national football team in May.
The Ghana Football Association has also confirmed that the team will camp at Bryant University in the United States throughout the tournament to ensure proper training and preparation.
Officials say the government and football authorities are determined to give the team the needed support to improve Ghana’s performance and restore pride in the national team on the world stage.
