Young Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong is emerging as a hot prospect ahead of the summer transfer window, with German side RB Leipzig and Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg both reportedly keeping a close eye on him.
At just 20 years old, Oppong has made a strong impression in the early stages of the Allsvenskan season, starting all three of IFK Norrköping’s matches so far. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, especially after a solid loan spell last season with GIF Sundsvall.
According to Swedish publication Expressen, both Leipzig and Salzburg — clubs under the Red Bull football group — have shown serious interest in the promising centre-back. And it couldn’t come at a better time for Norrköping, who are in the midst of financial difficulties. The club reportedly faces a €4 million shortfall, largely due to limited player sales and unusually high one-time expenses.
The financial pressure has already led to changes at the club, including the departure of former director Michael Sturehed. Now, a significant sale — such as a deal involving Oppong — could help ease the burden. With his contract running until after 2026, Norrköping is in a strong position to negotiate and could even hope for a bidding war.
While no official offers have been made yet, interest in Oppong is growing. Beyond Leipzig and Salzburg, several other European clubs — as well as teams from Major League Soccer — are reportedly monitoring his development closely.
