Asante Kotoko interim head coach, Prince Owusu, has expressed determination to deliver a strong performance when his side travels to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to face Karela United this Sunday, March 8, in week 25 of the Ghana Premier League.
Owusu admitted that the Porcupine Warriors’ recent results have fallen below expectations, highlighting the disappointment following a goalless draw against a ten-man Vision FC last weekend. He described the upcoming match as a challenging encounter, emphasizing that Kotoko must approach every game with seriousness to satisfy the high expectations of their supporters.
“The situation Kotoko is in right now demands full focus on every match. The task is difficult, and our fans expect nothing less than victory. We haven’t won at Karela United before, and we know it will be tough. But we have to perform and maybe break that jinx to secure a win,” Owusu told Kotoko TV.
Kotoko currently sit fourth on the league table with 39 points after 24 games, just one behind rivals Hearts of Oak. The team is eager to climb back into contention for the league title as leaders Medeama SC face Hohoe United in a crucial fixture at Tarkwa’s TnA Park.
Owusu’s remarks come amid mounting pressure for Kotoko to return to winning ways and reaffirm their status as one of Ghana’s most successful clubs. With Karela United known for their stubborn defending at home, Owusu insists that discipline, focus, and tactical awareness will be key to overcoming the hosts. He also stressed the importance of breaking the team’s historical struggle against Karela, noting that a positive result would boost confidence and momentum for the remaining fixtures.
The Week 25 Ghana Premier League fixtures promise an exciting weekend of football, with Hearts of Oak hosting Basake Holy Stars, Young Apostles taking on GoldStars, Karela United facing Kotoko, and Aduana Stars clashing with Eleven Wonders. Each match carries significant implications for the title race and relegation battles, heightening the stakes for all teams involved.
Owusu remains confident that with unity, effort, and a disciplined approach, Kotoko can turn recent frustrations into success. “We are aware of the expectations and the history, but this is about performance and resilience. A win can change the momentum for us, and we are ready to take on that challenge,” he added.
Asante Kotoko supporters are eagerly anticipating the match, hoping that the team will secure a vital victory on the road to maintain their push for the league crown. The Porcupine Warriors’ clash against Karela United promises intensity, tactical battles, and a chance for Owusu’s side to make a strong statement in the title race.
