Kotoko Coach Zito Addresses Kwame Opoku–Albert Amoah Rift Ahead of Clash with Former Club Dreams FC
Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has broken his silence on the rumored tension between strikers Kwame Opoku and Albert Amoah, revealing efforts are underway to resolve the situation.
Speaking to Kotoko’s media team ahead of the club’s Ghana Premier League clash against Dreams FC on Sunday, May 18, at the Baba Yara Stadium (15:00 GMT), Zito admitted there had been some friction between the two forwards but believes progress is being made.
“It’s about self-centeredness; everybody wants to score, and I see that as ego,” Zito explained. “A player with ego wants to win all the time. So I’ve been speaking with them and made it clear—Kotoko comes first before any individual. I think they are changing gradually.”
The match carries extra significance for Zito, who only two months ago was in charge of Dreams FC. The veteran coach, however, maintained that his focus remains on the job at hand with Kotoko and emphasized his commitment to professionalism ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
Zito enjoyed success with Dreams FC earlier this season, leading them to the MTN FA Cup title and a historic semifinals appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup before taking over at Kotoko.
Kotoko will be looking to secure all three points on Sunday as they aim to finish the season strongly, and harmony among the attacking unit could be key to their success.
