Henry Asante Twum, the communication director of the Ghana Football Association, has revealed that Asante Kotoko is currently the only club in the Ghana Premier League that does not receive locker room bonuses from the league’s title sponsor, BetPawa.
The locker room bonus was introduced this season as part of the sponsorship support from betPawa as the headliner of the Ghana Premier league.
Players receive an amount of Ghc 150 for winning matches this season from the headline sponsors from the Locker room bonuses.
In an interview on Kessben FM on Wednesday, Henry explained that initially, only Kotoko and Karela did not subscribe to BetPawa’s package to reward players in the league. However, Karela later subscribed.
Henry further explained that Kotoko did not subscribe to the package because they wanted the money to be paid in bulk to the club, which would then distribute it to the players. Additionally, Kotoko did not want BetPawa to deal directly with their players and requested that their players’ mobile money numbers not be given to BetPawa.
“Players of clubs have been receiving the locker room bonuses after every Matchday with the exception of Kotoko who didn’t subscribe. They told BetPawa that the money should be put together and give it to them at once. They said they won’t give the MoMo numbers of their players to BetPawa and also stressed that they don’t want BetPawa to deal with their players directly,” Henry disclosed.
