Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo has given explanations as to why Ghana Premier League giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim was not picked for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Nigeria.

According to him, the youngster was compared with other available goalkeepers by the Ghana technical handlers and opted to leave him out after thoroughly reviewing his strengths and weaknesses.

“The coaches have watched his (Danlad) tapes and they know his strength and weaknesses,” Addo told Kessben TV.

“They compared him to all the goalkeepers called for Nigeria clash and that is why he wasn’t selected. This is only two games and I am sure they will continue to monitor and he will have his opportunity.

“I am not speaking for the coaches but every decision taken is based on information available to them. Let us just support the team for us to qualify,” he added.

The 19-year-old has been in the form of his life but he was surprisingly been left out by Ghana’s interim head coach Otto Addo.

Danladi’s expulsion from the team has generated a lot of discussions as many Ghanaians believe the Kotoko first choice should have replaced either Manaf Nurudeen or Lawrence Ati-Zigi to add to Richard Ofori and Joojo Wollacott.

Ghana will play Nigeria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday and kick off has been scheduled for 19h30 GMT.

The return leg will take place four days later in Abuja, that is March 29 at 5pm.
