Mohammed Kudus could be handed a more central attacking role at Tottenham Hotspur once he returns to full fitness, with head coach Roberto De Zerbi reportedly considering using the Ghanaian as a number 10.
The potential tactical change comes as Tottenham are expected to strengthen their squad with more natural wingers, which could allow Kudus to move away from a predominantly wide role and operate behind the main striker.
Kudus’ ability to carry the ball, beat defenders, create openings and make powerful runs into dangerous areas could make him well suited to the position.
Playing centrally could also give the Ghanaian greater freedom to move across the attacking third, link up with teammates and exploit spaces between the opposition’s midfield and defence.
De Zerbi’s possession-oriented approach could further benefit Kudus, particularly if Tottenham’s wingers are able to stretch opposing defences and create room for him to receive the ball in advanced central areas.
However, the role could demand more from Kudus in terms of chance creation, quick decision-making and his final pass, as central areas usually offer less time and space than the wings.
If he adapts successfully, Kudus could become an important creative outlet for Tottenham and provide De Zerbi with another attacking option capable of changing games through his pace, strength and individual ability.
The proposed switch therefore presents an intriguing opportunity for the Ghanaian, with a successful transition potentially making him an even more influential figure in Tottenham’s attack.
