Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has reaffirmed the GFA’s commitment to strengthening Colts football and creating a sustainable pathway for young talents across the country.

Speaking at the launch of the 2026/27 Colts Football season at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Okraku said the revival of the Colts system has made significant progress since it was restructured in 2020, but stressed that the association is not satisfied with the work done so far.

“Six years ago, we set out to revive Colts football. Today, we can confidently say that the system is alive. But we are not satisfied,” Okraku said.

The GFA President explained that the association’s long-term objective is to establish a stronger grassroots football structure capable of identifying, developing and nurturing young players from an early age.

He said the focus is on providing young footballers with quality coaching, competitive opportunities and a clear pathway from Colts football to elite development, professional football and eventually the national teams.

“We are determined to create a system that ensures that no Ghanaian football talent is left behind,” he added.

Okraku also called on former footballers and legends who began their careers through the Colts system to contribute to the development of the next generation.

“To the legends who started their journeys through this system, your stories are the inspiration behind what we are building today,” he said, urging former players to mentor young talents and share the experiences gained throughout their careers.

The GFA President further appealed to the media to play a greater role in promoting grassroots football by highlighting the positive stories emerging from the Colts system.

“Let us tell positive stories about the young players who are working hard, the coaches who are sacrificing and the communities that are keeping football alive,” he said.

The 2026/27 season marks the sixth consecutive season since the GFA revived the Colts system, with 859 active Colts clubs currently operating across Ghana’s ten football regions.

The association is also expanding opportunities within the grassroots structure, including initiatives for girls, referees, coaches and young players through competitions, training programmes and talent identification activities.

With the new season now underway, the GFA says its continued investment in grassroots football is aimed at building a stronger foundation for the future of Ghanaian football and ensuring that talented young players have the opportunity to progress through the ranks.
